If you’re searching for family photoshoot locations in Glasgow, you don’t need to travel far to find beautiful, relaxed settings for natural family photos. Glasgow is full of green spaces, historic parks, woodland paths, and scenic viewpoints that work perfectly for family photography sessions with children of all ages.
As a family photographer based near Glasgow, I always look for locations that are not only photogenic, but also practical. Somewhere kids can move freely, parents can relax, and the session feels more like time together than a photoshoot. Below are my favourite family photoshoot locations in Glasgow and the surrounding area, all within around 30–40 minutes of the city.
Why Glasgow Is Great for Family Photoshoots
One of the reasons I love photographing families in and around Glasgow is the variety. You can go from elegant city parks to quiet woodland trails or wide open viewpoints in a very short drive. These locations give us space, changing backgrounds, and natural light without feeling staged or crowded.
Most of these spots are also easy to access, which makes a big difference when photographing young children or extended families.
1. Kelvingrove Park and Museum

Kelvingrove Park is one of the most popular family photoshoot locations in Glasgow, and for good reason. Located in the West End, it offers a mix of open green spaces, riverside paths, mature trees, and beautiful Victorian architecture near the museum.
It works well in every season. Spring brings blossom, summer is lush and green, autumn colours are stunning, and even winter sessions can feel calm and atmospheric.
Photographer’s tip: Early mornings or quieter weekdays work best for softer light and fewer people. Blossom season is usually short, late March to mid-April, but it’s worth timing if possible.

2. Pollok Country Park
Pollok Park feels like countryside right in the city. With wide open fields, forest trails, rivers, and the famous Highland cows, it’s one of the most relaxed family photoshoot locations in Glasgow for children.
Kids love the space and the animals, and parents often tell me it feels more like a walk than a photoshoot. The woodland areas are especially lovely for natural, unposed moments.
Photographer’s tip: Woodland areas can be darker, so earthy or slightly brighter tones photograph beautifully here. After light rain, the paths and puddles add lovely reflections.

3. Rouken Glen Park

Rouken Glen is a brilliant option for families with younger children. It has a little bit of everything: open grass, gentle woodland paths, a small waterfall, and easy walking routes.
It’s ideal if you want variety without too much walking, and it suits relaxed, playful sessions where children can explore at their own pace.
Photographer’s tip: The waterfall looks best after light rain. If you want to get close, bring sensible footwear as the rocks can be slippery.

4. Mugdock Country Park and Castle
Mugdock is one of those places where a session can unfold naturally without feeling planned. The castle ruins give a sense of history, while the woodland paths, loch edges, and small stone bridges let families move, explore, and slow down together. It is easy to create a varied gallery here without travelling far or rushing between spots.
In late spring, parts of the woodland fill with bluebells, which can be a beautiful backdrop for families who love a softer, more seasonal look. When I was last there, the bluebells were out in the middle of May, although timing can shift slightly each year.
Photographer’s tip: Weekdays or early mornings are much quieter, especially around the castle ruins. Fewer people means more space to relax and move naturally.

5. Queen’s Park

Queen’s Park offers a mix of open lawns, gentle slopes, and wooded areas that create a variety of backdrops in one spot. From the top of the park, you can capture sweeping views over Glasgow, while the paths and small clusters of trees give opportunities for more intimate, playful family moments.
Photographer’s Tip: There is a little wood near the viewpoint where bluebells appear in mid-May, perfect for seasonal shots. The paths are easy to navigate and offer natural pauses for kids to explore or for relaxed candid moments. Even short sessions here can give a mix of open, airy images and cosy woodland photos.

Bonus Location: Duncarnock Fort near Barrhead
Located just outside Barrhead, this quieter corner of Renfrewshire is ideal for families who want something a little more open and peaceful. A short walk up to Duncarnock Fort offers wide views across the surrounding landscape.
Close to the fort, there is a small area of woodland that comes alive with bluebells in late spring. It is an easy spot to include during a session and works well for families who enjoy a bit of seasonal colour without a long walk.
The combination of open views, water, and woodland means we can create a varied gallery within a short distance, without the session feeling rushed.
Photographer’s tip: This area works especially well in the evening light. Comfortable shoes are a good idea if you plan to walk up to the fort or explore around the dam.

Second Bonus Location: Gleniffer Braes Country Park

Gleniffer Braes Country Park sits just outside the city and offers wide views, open skies, and a feeling of space that works beautifully for relaxed family sessions. It is a great choice for families who enjoy a bit of fresh air and freedom without committing to a long drive.
One of the things I really like about this area is that you can easily combine two very different locations in one session. From the Robertson car park, Craigie Linn waterfall is only about a seven minute drive away, followed by a short walk of around ten minutes through woodland.
Using both Gleniffer Braes and Craigie Linn allows for a nice mix of open views and woodland atmosphere within a short distance, giving plenty of variety without feeling rushed.
Photographer’s tip: Craigie Linn is most dramatic after rainfall, while Gleniffer Braes shines later in the day with softer light over the hills. Layers are a good idea as it can be breezy on the viewpoints.

Third Bonus Location: Chatelherault Country Park
Chatelherault Country Park is a great option for families who want a more dramatic landscape without travelling too far from Glasgow. The long tree-lined avenues, woodland paths, and views down to the Avon Water give a sense of scale that works beautifully for relaxed, story-led family sessions.
The paths are wide and easy to walk, which makes it a good choice for extended families or sessions with prams. There are also quieter woodland sections where kids can explore while we capture natural moments as they move and interact.
Photographer’s tip: This location works well year-round, but autumn colours are especially lovely here. It’s a good idea to allow a little extra time so the session can unfold at a calm pace, especially with larger groups.

Choosing the Right Family Photoshoot Location in Glasgow
Every family is different, and the best family photoshoot location in Glasgow depends on your children’s ages, how much walking you’re comfortable with, and the overall feel you want. Some families prefer calm woodland paths, others love big views and open spaces.
When you book a session, I always help you choose a location that fits your plans, the season, and your family’s energy.
