Stuckgowan Estate Family Photographer for a 70th Birthday Family Gathering

As a Stuckgowan Estate family photographer, I was invited along to photograph a 70th birthday celebration at Stuckgowan Estate on Loch Lomond. The family wanted relaxed, informal photos before everyone changed into their evening outfits and sat down for dinner.
There were eight adults and three children, which created a lovely energy without anything feeling hectic. We started outside with views over the loch, letting the kids explore a little while the adults caught up. Then we moved inside for a few quieter moments in the living room, which gave the session a completely different feel.
When the piper arrived, everyone gathered in the hall to listen. It was a really special moment, especially when the birthday man stepped forward to share a dram of whisky with him. After that, everyone headed off to change into their evening outfits, kilts and all. While that was happening, I ended up having a bit of fun with the kids, chasing them down the corridor with my camera as they tried to hide. Not many of those photos were usable thanks to the low light and the running, but it was a great way to break the ice and get a few genuine laughs.
As people slowly came back downstairs, I captured some relaxed, candid moments of them chatting and getting ready for the evening. Once everyone was dressed, we stepped outside again to make the most of the soft evening light over the loch, which was a perfect way to wrap up the session before dinner.
Why Choose a Stuckgowan Estate Family Photographer
Stuckgowan Estate is a brilliant location for extended family photography. It feels private and calm, which makes a big difference when you have a mix of ages and personalities in one place. You can move easily between outdoor and indoor spaces without breaking the flow of the session, which helps everything feel natural rather than staged.
It works particularly well for:
- Extended family gatherings
- Birthday and anniversary celebrations
- Relaxed group photos without travelling between locations
- Sessions with mixed ages, from small children to grandparents

Planning a Family Photoshoot at Stuckgowan Estate
If you are staying at Stuckgowan Estate for a birthday, anniversary, or family get together, a photography session can fit really naturally into your day. Many families choose to do it before dinner or before getting changed for the evening, as everyone is usually more relaxed and the pace feels unhurried.
My approach is simple. I guide gently when it helps and step back when moments are happening on their own. We can move between outdoor and indoor spaces depending on the weather and how the day is flowing. The aim is always to capture the feeling of being together, not just what everyone looked like.
