How it works
This is the process from the enquiry to receiving the gallery. Check out the FAQ or contact us if you still have any questions.
1. Secure your date
By now, you’ve likely had a browse through my website or social media, catching a glimpse of the precious moments I’ve captured for other couples. If you’re feeling excited to plan your own session, let’s take the next step together.
First, check out the packages and find one that suits you best. Reach out via the contact form to inquire about available dates or if you have any questions. To secure your date, I’ll need you to fill in and sign an online client agreement, which I’ll send over via email.
Once the agreement is received, I’ll send over an invoice for the booking fee. Once paid, your date is officially secured, and we can start planning for your memorable session!
2. Let’s plan your session
To kick off your planning, let’s start with choosing the perfect location. Whether it’s where you’re staying during your vacation or a place that holds sentimental value, selecting a backdrop that resonates with you is key. Perhaps it’s the spot where you popped the question or a hidden gem where you shared unforgettable moments. If you need assistance with ideas, I’m here to provide recommendations or even explore new places together. Let’s make this session uniquely yours.
Now, let’s talk about outfits. Your attire sets the tone for your photoshoot and adds an extra layer of personalization. Consider outfits that not only complement each other but also reflect your individual styles and the mood of the location. Whether you opt for casual chic or formal elegance, choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident. For more tips on what to wear, please check the FAQ section below by scrolling down.
Don’t forget to accessorize with meaningful items or incorporate a touch of whimsy with special props like a picnic set or a vintage bicycle. It’s all about capturing your authentic selves in every frame.
3. Day of the session
Your session will be as special as your love story, so there’s no need to worry about how it will go. Just relax and have fun! The more at ease you both are, the more genuine and lovely your photos will turn out. So, laugh, play, and cuddle up close. Those real moments are what we want to capture. I’ll be there to guide you through, giving gentle direction and encouraging movement to bring your photos to life.
Wear clothes that let you move comfortably. For a classic look, consider medium or long dresses for women—they look stunning in photos and add a sense of motion. Avoid clothes with logos or stripes, and choose colours that complement each other, like earthy tones and neutrals. Maybe you’d like to add a touch of Scottish tradition with a kilt or tartan scarf?
Relax, enjoy yourselves, and trust that I’ll capture the true essence of your love in every shot.
4. After the session
A few weeks after the shoot I will hand-edit the best images and send you a preview gallery of around 80-100 photographs. This is the moment to choose your favourite photos from your package (the number depending on which package you choose), buy additional ones, or the entire gallery. (You can pay for this in installments, over three months if you prefer. Please note that you will not be able to access your gallery or receive your photos until the final payment has been made.)
In the final gallery, you can purchase add-ons such as prints, albums and frames, and many more from the best photo labs in the UK.

Absolutely brilliant!
“We had a couples shoot with Shem recently and it was absolutely brilliant! We felt so at ease, and Shem had some really fantastic ideas! We expected to feel a bit awkward, but it wasn’t at all! Highly recommend to anybody looking for a portrait, wedding or couples photographer!”

Beautiful!
We highly recommend Strad Photography. We went through several changes and he never complained. He even picked us up to take us to the locations since we did not have a car. He was very knowledgeable of the area and photography locations. Our pictures are breathtaking. Absolutely beautiful. It definitely was an experience that we will never forget. A wonderful memory of our trip to Scotland.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best time for the session?
Either early in the morning or around 2–3 hours before sunset. The light on both these occasions is lovely as it’s low on the horizon and comes from an angle.
What locations in Scotland are ideal for couples’ photoshoots?
Scotland boasts a plethora of ideal locations, including the enchanting Isle of Skye, the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe, the historic streets of Edinburgh, and the picturesque shores of Loch Lomond. Each location provides a distinct setting for capturing your love story.
How do you handle unpredictable weather in Scotland?
Scotland is known for its ever-changing weather. I closely monitor conditions and work with you to plan accordingly. If it looks like rain a few days ahead, I’ll get in touch to either reschedule (at no extra cost) or embrace it and have fun in the rain. The changing weather often adds a dynamic and atmospheric element to the photographs.
Do you recommend a specific season for couples’ photoshoots in Scotland?
It depends on your preferences. Spring brings blooming flowers, summer offers long daylight hours, autumn showcases golden hues, and winter transforms the landscape into a wonderland. Each season provides a unique and beautiful backdrop.
Can we include traditional Scottish elements in our photoshoot?
Absolutely! Incorporating traditional Scottish elements, such as kilts, tartans, or choosing a location with historic significance, can add cultural richness and authenticity to your images.
How do you capture candid moments during the photoshoot?
I encourage a relaxed atmosphere during our session, allowing for candid moments to naturally unfold. By fostering genuine interactions and emotions, we can capture the authentic essence of your relationship.
Do you use flash in couples’ photography, and why?
Yes, I may use flash in certain situations to enhance the visual impact of specific shots. It allows me to create a certain look, emphasize elements within the frame, and add a dynamic quality to the overall composition.
How long does a typical couples’ photoshoot in Scotland last?
The duration can vary depending on the location, weather, and your preferences. My packages cover 1 to 2 hours. Longer sessions can be arranged for more extensive coverage or multiple locations.
What should we wear for the photoshoot?
Choosing what to wear for a couples’ photoshoot in Scotland is an important decision that can greatly impact the overall look and feel of your photos. Here are some tips to help you decide:
Embrace Scottish heritage: Consider incorporating elements of Scottish culture into your outfits, such as tartan patterns, kilts, or traditional Scottish attire. These elements can add a unique and authentic touch to your photoshoot, especially if you’re visiting iconic Scottish landmarks or landscapes.
Dress for the weather: Scotland’s weather can be unpredictable, so it’s essential to dress appropriately for the conditions. Layering is key, as it allows you to adjust your clothing based on temperature changes throughout the day. Bring along waterproof jackets or coats, sturdy footwear for walking on uneven terrain, and accessories like scarves or hats to stay warm and comfortable.
Coordinate, but don’t match: Choose outfits that complement each other in terms of style and color palette, but avoid wearing identical outfits. Aim for a cohesive look rather than exact matching.
Consider the location and theme: Think about the setting and the mood you want to convey in your photos. If you’re shooting outdoors in a natural setting, earthy tones or pastel colors may work well. For a more formal setting, consider dressing up a bit more.
Choose timeless and comfortable outfits: Opt for classic pieces that you feel confident and comfortable in. Avoid clothing with large logos or busy patterns that may distract from the main focus of the photos, which is you and your partner.
Pay attention to details: Don’t forget about accessories and shoes. Consider adding subtle accessories like scarves, hats, or jewelry to enhance your outfits and add visual interest to the photos.
Avoid extremes: Steer clear of clothing that is too revealing or too baggy, as it may not flatter your figure or photograph well.
Be yourself: Ultimately, choose outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel like yourselves. The goal is to capture authentic moments between you and your partner, so wear outfits that make you feel comfortable and confident.
By following these tips and considering your personal style and the location of the photoshoot, you can select outfits that will help create beautiful and timeless photos of you and your partner.
How do I view the photos after the session?
Your edited photographs will be ready in a private online preview gallery within about 3–4 weeks during quieter months, and 6–8 weeks during the busier season. I also love to share a little sneak peek on Facebook and Instagram within 4–5 days after your session.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, I have both public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
How do I book a session?
Get in touch by using the contact form to find out my available dates or if you have any additional questions. In order to secure your date I require an online contract to be filled in and signed (I will email it to you) and a booking fee paid in full (non-refundable).
If you have additional questions or would like to discuss specific details, feel free to reach out. I’m here to make your couples’ photoshoot in Scotland a memorable and enjoyable experience.
