Rainy Scottish Highlands Proposal – Kylee and Ryan

Ryan got in touch from Canada a few weeks before their trip to Scotland. He wanted to plan something special for his girlfriend, Kylee, during their time in the Highlands. Once I sent him a few possible locations based on their route, he chose Butter Bridge, a beautiful old stone bridge surrounded by mountains and streams. It sits just below the Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint, one of the most scenic spots in the Scottish Highlands and the perfect setting for a rainy Scottish Highlands proposal.

The forecast did not look great that morning, but Ryan decided to go ahead anyway and I am so glad he did. It rained most of the time, but the atmosphere was incredible. The mist hanging over the hills, the muted colours and the sound of the river made the whole place feel peaceful and intimate, exactly what makes a rainy Scottish Highlands proposal so unique.

After the proposal we drove up to the nearby Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint for a few more photos. Even though it was still raining, the view was worth it. The mood, the fog and the light gave everything this cinematic look that you just cannot plan for.

I always keep an eye on the Met Office forecast before a session, but the truth is that the weather in Scotland changes so quickly that you never really know what you will get. That unpredictability is part of the charm and it often gives you something even more beautiful than expected, especially during a rainy Scottish Highlands proposal.

If you are planning your own proposal in Scotland, my advice is not to stress too much about the weather. The Highlands look beautiful in every condition. Rain, mist and clouds often make the photos feel even more real and full of atmosphere. You can find more information about planning your session on my Scotland couples photographer page, and if you are worried about the weather, have a look at my recent post about photoshoots in bad weather to see how amazing rainy days can look in photos.

Why Butter Bridge Works So Well for Proposals

Butter Bridge is one of those places that looks beautiful in any weather. It is surrounded by hills, open space and quiet. Even when it rains, the mist adds something cinematic to the scene. With Rest and Be Thankful just a short drive away, it is easy to get a mix of landscapes in one session.

If you are planning a secret proposal in the Scottish Highlands, this area is perfect. It is private, easy to reach from Glasgow and always breathtaking. Whether the day brings sunshine or rain, your rainy Scottish Highlands proposal will be something to remember.
