How It Works
This is the process from the enquiry to receiving the gallery. Check out the FAQ or contact us if you still have any questions.
1. Secure your date and plan your session
By this time I assume you had a wee look around my website or social media and you know that I will be a good photographer for you. You saw all those precious moments captured for other future mums and you are excited to plan your own session.
Now, let’s dive into the next steps of this journey—getting acquainted with the available packages and selecting the one that best suits your needs. Simply reach out to me using the contact form to inquire about my available dates or if you have any additional questions. To secure your desired date, I kindly request that you fill in and sign an online contract, which I will promptly email to you. This not only confirms the reservation but also allows me to understand your family better and gain insights into your preferred session style. For those chilly winter days, many clients opt to combine an in-home photography session with an outdoor one, which can be a fantastic choice.
Once I receive the contract I will also email you an invoice for the booking fee and once it’s paid your date is secured.
2. Let’s plan your session
Once we have determined a suitable date, I will promptly send you an online agreement. This agreement serves as an opportunity for me to better understand you and your family, gaining insights into your preferences for the shoot. Many of my clients opt for a combination of at-home photography sessions and outdoor sessions. However, if you have a preference for one over the other, that is absolutely fine too!
It’s always a wonderful idea to brainstorm ways to make the session truly special and tailored to your unique vision. When it comes to maternity sessions, you may consider capturing intimate moments at home, where you can feel completely at ease while we capture those beautiful bump shots. Alternatively, you might prefer venturing outdoors, adding more movement and exploration to your images. We could take a leisurely stroll around town or visit your favorite park, capturing the essence of your surroundings in a memorable way. The choice is yours, and I’m here to ensure that the session reflects your desires and showcases your journey in the most authentic and meaningful manner.
3. Day of the session
Every session and every person is unique so please don’t stress about how will your session go and how your kids will behave if you will have your children with you. The best thing to do is to let go and have fun. The more relaxed you all are the better the photos will look. Laugh, play, tickle, and snuggle. This is how we’ll capture the REAL moments. When in doubt, just smile and look at your partner/family lovingly. Stand close together. Actually, as close as possible. I will do some directing on what to do, but I like movement in photographs so I will be reminding you all to keep moving and I will be guiding you through the whole session.
Be prepared to move around so wearing comfortable clothing is important. Choosing what to wear is also important for the look and feel of your photographs. I recommend women wear medium or long dresses instead of pants because they capture movement and generally photograph more flatteringly. Short dresses will be a challenge when we do any seated photos, so keep that in mind. Wear colours in a complementary colour palette, such as earth tones and neutrals. Avoid any texts, logos or stripes on your clothes.
4. After the session
A few weeks after the shoot I will hand-edit the best images and send you a preview gallery of around 80–100 photographs. This is the moment to choose your favourite photos from your package (the number depending on which package you choose), buy additional ones, or the entire gallery (You can pay for this in installments, over three months if you prefer, please note that you will not be able to access your gallery or receive your photos until the final payment has been made).
In the final gallery, you can purchase add-ons such as prints, albums and frames, and many more from the best photo labs in the UK.

What other lovely families have to say!
Amazing!
“We had a maternity and newborn photoshoot with Shem in 2021. He really made us feel so at ease through the whole process and accommodated our needs so well. The end photographs were amazing and exactly what we wanted. Couldn’t recommend more.”

Beautiful experience!
“I contacted Shem to get for my maternity photoshoot done as I found great reviews posted in the website. Not just did I have a beautiful experience of having a photoshoot at ease but he made sure each pictures came out very candid and natural.
Shem knows the craft really well, so I wanted to have further photo shoots with my toddler after he turned a year and later a full family photoshoot with my parents, sibling and bro in law.
Highly recommend getting your moments captured with Shem and rest assured that anytime you give them a look it would bring a smile on your face.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Why every expectant mother should embrace maternity photography?
Capturing Timeless Memories:
Pregnancy, with its array of discomforts and challenges, can sometimes make the nine-month journey feel like an eternity. From morning sickness and fatigue to aches and hormonal changes, it’s understandable that many women eagerly await the arrival of their little ones, longing for relief from the physical demands. However, amidst the ups and downs, it’s crucial not to overlook the importance of preserving the remarkable memories that come with carrying a life within you.
While it may be challenging to fully appreciate it in the moment, time has a way of shifting perspectives. As the years pass, you will find profound gratitude for the miraculous journey your body embarked upon, creating the cherished gift of new life. Having tangible images of your blossoming bump allows you to reflect upon and celebrate this transformative chapter whenever you desire. Not only will you treasure these photographs, but they will also hold a special place in the hearts of your children. From a young age, they will revel in the realization that they once resided within your womb, fostering a sense of connection and belonging. And as they grow into adulthood, they will cherish the sacred memories of their mother’s pregnancy, passing them down as a precious legacy to future generations.
Embracing the Celebration:
Pregnancy is an extraordinary reason for celebration. Your body is embarking on a truly miraculous journey, and whether it took you a long time to conceive or this marks your final pregnancy, it’s an event worth commemorating. Women experience the joy of being pregnant only a few times, if at all, in their lives, making it all the more important to capture the essence of this remarkable journey through photography. A maternity photography session not only empowers you but also creates a fun and meaningful connection with your growing baby as your due date draws near.
You may hesitate, feeling a tinge of vanity about a photography session focused solely on you. However, it’s essential to remember that the session is not solely about you, it’s about the precious life blossoming within you as well. Women bodies possess an incredible ability to nurture and bring forth new life, and I find great joy in capturing that awe-inspiring process. The session becomes an opportunity to honor the beauty and strength of your body, celebrating the intricate bond between mother and child.
Allow yourself to embrace the enchantment of this transformative journey, as we capture the radiance and splendor of your pregnancy. It’s a celebration of life, love, and the profound connection that begins even before your baby takes their first breath.
When should I book a maternity photography Glasgow?
To ensure availability, it’s advisable to book your maternity photography session as early as possible, as maternity and newborn photographers in Glasgow tend to have a busy schedule. I recommend considering booking your session after your 12 or 20-week scan, or whenever you feel most comfortable during your pregnancy journey. While I may have bookings well in advance, I strive to accommodate last-minute sessions whenever possible. Therefore, even if you are further along in your pregnancy, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email. I will make every effort to find a suitable time slot that works for you and captures the precious moments of this remarkable chapter in your life.
When is the best time for a maternity photography session in Glasgow?
For optimal results, I suggest scheduling your maternity photography session when you are between 31 to 35 weeks pregnant. This timeframe ensures that your baby bump is beautifully pronounced, creating stunning images that capture the essence of this special time in your life. Additionally, by selecting this timeframe, we minimize the chances of your session coinciding with the early onset of labor. It allows us to comfortably plan and execute the session, ensuring that you can fully enjoy and celebrate your pregnancy without any concerns about timing.
What happens if it rains?
If you opted for an outdoor session and it looks like it’s going to rain a few days before the session, then I will get in touch a couple of days before and we can either reschedule (at no extra cost) or embrace it and have fun in the rain. When mixing home and outdoor sessions it can be a lot of fun for the kids to go out in their wellies and jump in the puddles.
Do you photograph in colour or black & white?
Most of the photographs are in colour but I do love black & white and I deliver a bunch of them. Sometimes a photo just looks best in black & white.
How do I view the photos after the session?
2–4 weeks after the shoot your edited photographs will be available for viewing in a private online preview gallery.
Can we bring props to make the session more personal?
Yes, it can benefit the session and create even more meaningful memories. Things like your scan, little shoes—basically anything you like to do together or is important to you.
What should we all wear?
Be prepared to move around so wearing comfortable clothing is important. Choosing what to wear is also important for the look and feel of your photographs. I recommend women wear medium or long dresses instead of pants because they capture movement and generally photograph more flatteringly. Short dresses will be a challenge when we do any seated photos, so keep that in mind. Wear colours in a complementary colour palette, such as earth tones and neutrals. Avoid any texts, logos or stripes on your clothes. Layering works really well for creating different looks and a change of outfit can be a good idea for very little ones. Pinterest is a great place for inspiration.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, I have both public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
