Loch Achtriochtan family photography in Glencoe
Scotland’s Highlands offer some of the most breathtaking backdrops for family photography – and Glencoe is no exception. Nisha, Duncan and their three beautiful daughters visited Scotland for their summer holiday and were staying in the Highlands. When they reached out for a family session, I knew Loch Achtriochtan and the iconic Three Sisters of Glencoe would be the perfect locations.
We met early in the morning in July when the loch looks its best – calm and reflective, with soft light casting over the mountains. Morning is the ideal time for Loch Achtriochtan family photography in Glencoe as the sun is still low on the horizon, creating a warm glow over the landscape. The weather was windy and quite chilly, but they fully embraced it, laughing and enjoying the moment.
What made this session even more special was the thought Nisha put into their outfits. She and the girls wore beautiful, flowing dresses in soft, earthy tones that blended perfectly with the Highland scenery. The way the fabric moved in the wind added a dreamy touch to the images. They also brought delicate flowers, which made the session feel even more magical. These little details added an extra layer of beauty to their photos.
One of my favourite moments was capturing the three sisters in front of the Three Sisters of Glencoe – a perfect connection between them and the landscape. The image of three strong, adventurous young girls in front of three towering mountains felt symbolic and truly special.
Despite the cold, the girls had so much fun – running along the loch’s edge, playing together and snuggling up with their parents to keep warm. Scottish weather can be unpredictable, but it often adds a magical feel to photos. The mist rolling over the mountains and the soft, diffused light made the images even more atmospheric.
By the time we reached the Three Sisters, the wind had settled and the skies started to clear. This gave me the chance to bring out my drone for some extra aerial shots. Seeing Glencoe’s vast beauty from above, with this wonderful family standing in the middle of it, was the perfect way to end the session.
