Lifestyle Newborn Photography Glasgow

Lifestyle Newborn Photography Glasgow

I have been a Glasgow newborn photographer for over 4 years now and I offer unique, warm, and natural lifestyle newborn and family photo sessions. I love lifestyle newborn photography because the main focus is on the real moments in the first years of becoming a parent. Going through the newborn phase 5 times myself I know how I missed those tiny toes, all those lovely cuddles and smiles. I will travel to your home for your natural newborn session and capture for you all those lovely moments, details, and raw and real memories of your baby’s first days of life. They grow so fast that you will be glad to have such a beautiful memory that will bring you back to the moments when your beautiful baby fits in your arms.

How it Works

This is the process from the enquiry to receiving the gallery. Check out the FAQ or contact us if you still have any questions.

1. Secure your date and plan your session

By this time I assume you had a wee look around my website or social media and you know that I will be a good photographer for you. You saw all those precious moments captured for other families and their little babies and you are excited to plan your own session. Lifestyle newborn sessions are good from as soon as you feel ready, but if you want a lot of sleepy photographs of your baby then it’s best to plan it in the first 2 weeks after the birth.

The next thing to do is to get to know the packages and choose one that works best for you. Get in touch by using the contact form to find out my available dates or if you have any additional questions. In order to secure your date I require an online contract to be filled in and signed (I will email it to you).

Once I receive the contract I will also email you an invoice for the booking fee and once it’s paid your date is secured.

2. Let’s plan your session

Planning a home newborn photo session involves several steps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Here’s a guide to help you plan:

Choose a Date and Time: Select a time when your baby is typically calm and relaxed, such as after a feeding. Natural light is best, so consider scheduling during the day when there’s ample daylight.

Select a Location: Decide which rooms in your home you’d like to use for the photoshoot. Common areas include the nursery, bedroom, living room, or any space with good natural light.

Prepare the Space: Clear clutter and create a clean, uncluttered environment. Consider adding personal touches like soft blankets, pillows, or meaningful props.

Dress Comfortably: Dress yourself and your baby in comfortable clothing. Neutral colors or soft tones work well and won’t distract from the baby.

Gather Props (Optional): If you have special props you’d like to use, such as blankets, baskets, or toys, gather them beforehand.

Keep Baby Comfortable: Ensure the room temperature is warm enough for the baby, and have essentials like nappies and wipes nearby.

Be Flexible: Babies can be unpredictable, so be prepared to go with the flow. Allow breaks for feeding, changing, or soothing the baby as needed.

Enjoy the Experience: Relax and enjoy the process. A calm and joyful atmosphere will reflect in the photos.

By following these steps, you can create a warm and intimate setting for capturing beautiful memories of your newborn in the comfort of your own home.

3. Day of the session

Interacting naturally with your baby and family members is key to capturing genuine moments during the session. Engage in activities that bring joy to your family—whether it’s singing a lullaby, cuddling on the couch, or playing with your older children. These authentic interactions will lead to candid and heartfelt photographs that reflect the true essence of your family bond.

During the session, I will provide gentle guidance and suggestions for poses and compositions. Trust in my experience and expertise to capture beautiful and meaningful photographs that highlight the unique dynamics of your family. I’ll offer direction to ensure everyone looks their best while still maintaining a natural and relaxed atmosphere. Feel free to share any ideas or preferences you have, and together we’ll create timeless images that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Most importantly, relax and enjoy the experience! The best photos often come from natural, spontaneous moments. Trust in the process and allow yourself to be present with your family. This session is about capturing the beauty of your everyday life and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

4. After the session

A few weeks after the shoot I will hand-edit the best images and send you a preview gallery of around 80-100 photographs. This is the moment to choose your favourite photos from your package (the number depending on which package you choose), buy additional ones, or the entire gallery (You can pay for this in installments, over three months if you prefer, please note that you will not be able to access your gallery or receive your photos until the final payment has been made). In the final gallery, you can purchase add-ons such as prints, albums and frames, and many more from the best photo labs in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I prepare my home for a lifestyle newborn photography session?

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable session, you don’t need a perfectly staged home. The most important element is good natural light, typically near a window. However, I recommend decluttering the rooms we’ll be using, such as the master bedroom, living area, and nursery. Simply gather any items and temporarily store them in another room or bathroom until we’re done. If you need help with decluttering, I’m more than happy to assist!

During the session, expect me to be a bit adventurous in my approach. I might ask to stand on your bed, sofa, or other surfaces to capture the perfect shot (with your permission, of course). I may also suggest moving furniture around if it helps create better lighting conditions. Rest assured, I’ll prioritize your comfort and safety throughout the process.

To add a personal touch to the photos, gather any special soft toys, muslins, or blankets that you’d like to include. These items can help create a warm and cozy atmosphere in the images.

Lastly, it’s important to ensure that the house is comfortably warm, so your little one can be undressed without feeling cold. We’ll work together and go with the flow, embracing the beautiful chaos that comes with photographing newborns. Remember, I have a planned image list, but I’m also open to capturing spontaneous moments that unfold naturally.

How can I prepare my baby for the session?

If possible, try to feed your baby before I arrive. I understand that the early days with a newborn can be hectic, and this may not always be feasible. But don’t worry, if your little one needs to be fed, changed, or snuggled during the session, there’s absolutely no rush. In fact, these moments of care and tenderness can result in beautiful lifestyle images. So feel free to attend to your baby’s needs as they arise, and we’ll capture those precious moments along the way. The session is meant to be relaxed and flexible, allowing us to document the authentic and natural interactions between you and your baby.

What should we wear for the session?

For everyone, it’s best to avoid clothing with logos, distracting patterns, or overly vibrant colors. Creams, browns, and neutrals tend to photograph beautifully. It’s a good idea to have spare outfits on hand, just in case, especially for babies who might unexpectedly spit up.

Dressing your baby in comfortable and simple clothing is key. Opt for soft, solid-colored onesies or bodysuits that are comfortable and won’t distract from your baby’s natural beauty. Swaddling your baby in a lightweight blanket or muslin wrap can create a cozy and adorable look. Keep accessories minimal and non-distracting.

Mummies, choose an outfit that makes you feel both comfortable and great. Dresses are always a great choice for timeless photographs, but if that’s not your style, no worries—just wear something that makes you feel beautiful.

Dads, keep it simple and dress for comfort. A plain t-shirt or shirt paired with jeans works great and ensures the focus remains on your family’s connection.

As for siblings, it depends on their age, but if possible, try to avoid clothing with logos or patterns. However, if they insist on wearing something special like a fancy dress costume, don’t worry—it becomes part of their unique story at this moment, and you’ll cherish those memories when looking back.

Overall, the goal is to have everyone feel comfortable and relaxed, allowing us to capture authentic and heartwarming moments of your family together.

What about siblings?

Before the session, it’s helpful to let the siblings know that I’ll be coming over. For younger ones, you can simply tell them that I’m coming over to play—let’s make it a fun and exciting event for them. I won’t ask them to pose or force them into anything uncomfortable; instead, I’ll encourage them to be themselves and capture their natural interactions.

I understand that being an older sibling can sometimes be challenging, especially when a new baby enters the picture. That’s why I’ll make sure to give them plenty of attention and create a comfortable environment for them during the session. I can sense when they need a break or a snack, and if they want to explore or take some time away, that’s absolutely fine. In my experience, they often come back on their own accord because they’re curious about what’s happening.

The focus of the session is to capture genuine moments and allow the siblings to express their own unique personalities. I’ll be there to guide and photograph them while ensuring they feel comfortable and at ease throughout the process.

What happens if my baby is fussy or doesn’t settle during the session?

Babies can be unpredictable, and that’s perfectly okay! If your baby is fussy or having trouble settling, we’ll take breaks as needed and work around their schedule. Sometimes a feeding, gentle rocking, or cuddling can do wonders to soothe them. Patience is key, and I’m here to ensure a relaxed and stress-free experience for everyone.

Can we include grandparents or other family members in the session?

Absolutely! Including extended family members can add a special touch to your photos. Just let me know in advance, and we can plan accordingly to capture beautiful moments with grandparents, siblings, or other family members.

What if my baby has special needs or medical considerations?

Your baby’s comfort and safety are my top priorities. If your baby has any special needs or medical considerations, please inform me beforehand so that we can plan the session accordingly. I’ll ensure to accommodate any requirements to create a safe and comfortable environment for your little one.

What is the ideal age for the session with our baby?

I recommend booking your session within the first 4 weeks of your little one’s life. During this time, babies grow and change rapidly, and capturing those early moments is truly precious. However, if scheduling doesn’t permit a session within the first month, don’t worry! A lifestyle newborn session can still be done within the first 3 months of your baby’s life.

As babies get a bit older, typically around the 3-month mark and beyond, they begin to make more eye contact and display adorable smiles. These interactions create beautiful connections between parents and their growing baby, making for heartwarming photographs.

Remember, every stage of your baby’s development is unique and worth documenting. Whether you choose to have the session within the first 4 weeks or later during the first 3 months, the focus remains on capturing the genuine love and connections within your family.

How do I book a session?

Get in touch by using the contact form to find out my available dates or if you have any additional questions. In order to secure your date I require an online contract to be filled in and signed (I will email it to you) and a booking fee paid in full (non-refundable).
